Origin
Name submitted by the Invercargill Chief Surveyor in December 1968 after a letter from resident, Olga Sansom, with a list of 20 long established names, suggesting the need for more names within the confines of Halfmoon Bay for the benefit of day-trippers. These were checked by longtime residents Roy Traill and Mr RC Hicks JP. Named after John Bragg, pioneer settler in Halfmoon Bay. The old family home is just above Bragg Bay.
