Name submitted in July 1969 by Roy Traill as a result of proposed oyster farming in Prices Inlet. For convenience the people interested in the project had used this name for identification purposes. The name is descriptive. A solitary Blue Gum tree grew on the island at the time of the proposal. It was planted by one of the Lonnekers who worked at Swains mill.
